Letters to my Olivia From A mother to her daughter| Volume 1

Yesterday was your three month birthday. For three amazing months you have changed our lives.

It’s amazing how I waited for you for so long, you finally arrived and now it’s so normal with you here that I can’t imagine how life was before you.

You were born on March 7, 2016 and weighed 8.1 lbs. Perfect size. The nurses put you on top of me. Your daddy cried when he saw you. I just laughed. It seems to be what I do these days in new and emotional moments. It was such a wonderful feeling to have you on me. The most beautiful baby I had ever seen.  My baby girl was finally here.

I had no idea how much love I could have for a little baby.

The first couple of weeks were rough. Not on your part. My recovery was difficult. You were such an easy baby from the start. You just cuddled, slept and ate. I loved getting to know you. I was in awe of everything you did. Once I started feeling more like myself you made me want to have lots of kids. If this was what motherhood was about then I want lots more of these sweet little babies.

These months have gone by so fast. I have taken so many photos of you so that I will never forget these moments. I can’t wait to share all the photos and memories with you when you are older. I want you to see how much love and joy you brought to our family. You changed our world for the better.

I find my mind wandering and imagining who you will be and what your life will be like. I wonder what will you look like, what will your voice sound like, who will you marry, will you have kids, what will you be passionate about. I am so excited to learn all these things and support you as you discover them.

Some of my favourite things about you right now are:

When you are having a nap in your crib and your soother falls out, I come to put it back in and with your eyes are still closed you raise your legs to wrap them around my arm every time. I love the way your feet feel on my arms.

No matter what mood you are in, as soon as I put you on the change table you immediately become happy.

You discovered your legs and love lifting them as high as you can. It’s so cute to watch.

Your voice is so sweet. First it was just cute little sounds here and there. Then you realized you could coo and coo for long periods of time. It melted my heart.

Your hands are always up by your head every time you sleep.

You are so fun to watch. I find myself staring at you all the time. Sometimes it even brings me to tears. God made you perfect and so beautiful. Don’t ever forget that.  Your smile lights up the room.

You, my sweet Olivia, are wrapped around my finger.

I love how when I sing to you, you open your mouth as if you are going to join in but no sound comes out. Then you burst into smiles as if to let me know I have the greatest voice. I hope when you are older you will love to sing as much as I do.

These past months have been the greatest. There has been lots of change, late nights, little sleep, tears, learning, recovering, cuddles, middle of the night feedings, joy, photos being taken, laughing, adjusting, watching you in awe, happiness, diaper changing, self-discovery and love.

Olivia Joy, you are the greatest adventure. You have made me a mom and I couldn’t be happier.

I love you, my sweet Olivia Joy.

Xoxox,

Your mommy

Oh Karina, that was most beautifully written! You shared your heart with all of us thru this letter and I love you all the more for it. This was better than any card you could write. Your writing style was superb. As your older sister, I love watching you grow into this mature mama who is so calm and a rock. You have slipped so easily into your role as mom, exactly like you were born for it. I hope you have many more babies! They would be a blessing to the world bc of all the love they’d be filled with from you and Brian. You are the most wonderful sister! Love you

So special!!! What a beautiful letter to a beautiful baby from a beautiful mom! I spent hours looking at you babies also, and it is a magic time having a new one in your arms. When I found out you were coming, I remember feeling elated I could go through it all over again!! Enjoy every minute because this is what’s important, not cleaning or baking or anything else!! Stare and stare! Listen and play, pray for her and point her to Jesus! And keep writing to her…….I love you and know you, a wonderful mother, will have a lifetime of adventures with Olivia!
