When Nell reached out and asked if I’d be up for photographing their family at The Parlour, a bright and cheerful ice cream shop in Hamilton, I couldn’t say yes fast enough! I love when families think outside the box and want to include something a little different in their session—it makes the experience even more memorable and personal.
Before diving into the ice cream fun, we started our session at a local park nearby. It was the perfect spot to capture some relaxed and beautiful portraits of Nell, Anthony, and their sweet girls. We wandered, played, and soaked in the soft evening light. It’s always a joy to photograph families just being themselves, and these four made it so easy.
Then came the second half of the evening—ice cream time! We headed to The Parlour, and it happened to be a quiet evening, which meant we had the space practically to ourselves. The bright pink building outside added such a fun pop of colour for some playful shots, and the real magic happened as the girls stepped up to the counter, perched on the stools, carefully choosing their flavours. Their eyes lit up with excitement—it was pure childhood joy.
Sessions like this are a great reminder that your family photos don’t have to be all posed smiles and perfect outfits. They can (and should!) reflect your personality, your traditions, and the things you love doing together. Whether it’s grabbing a scoop of your favourite treat, exploring your neighbourhood, or baking cookies in your kitchen—adding a little twist can make your photos even more meaningful.
